An animated bookshelf prop made for a Torchlight mod. Made with Maya and Photoshop.
As the breakdown explains, it essentially functions like a treasure chest -- it's default state is a one-frame "closed" or unactivated animation played on a loop. When the player activates it, the "opening" animation plays (the bookshelf wobbles a little while the books and scroll get shifted about, as if the player is rummaging around for treasure) and some appropriate loot is then dropped (in the case of this game, some spell scrolls) for the player to pick up. Then, the prop plays its one-frame-long opened/activated animation on a loop from that point forth.
It's also worth mentioning that the in-game texture is half of the size of the one used here, since a) that fits more with the existing textures in the game, and b) the prop will never be seen quite as close as it is being seen here anyway. From the distances props in the game are normally seen at, the resolution difference is negligible.
I'm collaborating with someone else on the mod (I'm doing the art, they're doing the scripting) so I will post a link to the mod once it's fully finished.

I do have to say that you could've EASILY fit it into a 512x512. For something that size ingame there is 0 need to have 2 sides + 1 back taking up uvmap space when you just need 1 for all 3. I'd suggest you rip textures from say; WoW or Diablo 3 to see how they get extremely efficient. With a bit more of focus on that your textures will end up being smaller + look higher res than they actually are.
